A while back I wrote a series of posts on People Giving Away Money. These posts have now become very popular so I wanted to summarise and share them on one posting. Part 3 of 4: People Who Give Money: In the third instalment I look at more lesser known billionaires who are doing their part to help people in need. These people who give money away do so through their charitable foundation so its certainly worth touching base with them. I love to write about people giving away money on the Millionaires Giving Money Blog. In Part 1 I had great fun writing about great billionaires such as Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and George Soros and the way they gave their money to help people in need. In Part 2 and 3 I highlighted billionaires such as Ted Turner, Li Ka-Shing and Herbert Sandler and how they help people all over the world. In Part 4 of the series on people giving away money I will look at the final 5 billionaires, celebrities, philanthropists and millionaires giving money away.

#16: Jon Huntsman Sr.

Number 16 in the list of people that give money away is Jon Huntsman who has an estimated net worth of $925 million made in the chemicals industry. Amazingly to date he has given away $1.25 billion in donations which means he has now given more than he has left. Some of the most notable and heart warming donations came from Huntsman after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1992.

Before Jon went for his treatment he famously made three stops. The first stop was at a homeless shelter where he donated just over a million dollars. The next stop was at a soup kitchen where he donated another million. At Huntsman’s final stop he donated just over half a million at a cancer clinic. Jon is an amazing example of how generous one person can be. Jon has also stated that he plans to give away most of his wealthy before he passes to his cancer foundation.

#17: Michael Dell

In at number seventeen in the list of people who give away money is Michael Dell. Michael Dell has an estimated net worth of $14.6 Billion where most of his money came from building a PC and laptop manufacturing business from scratch. To date he has donated an astonishing £1.2 Billion to help people in America.

Dell shot to fame when his computer manufacturing business experienced a meteoric rise along with his net worth. He now focuses most of his time and money on providing scholarships for gifted students, money to combat obesity and donates to improve the lives of urban children. #18: Pierre Omidyar

If you have decided to contact these organizations for help you need to act in a professional and polite manner and always avoid brash statements such as I need money and help need money now. These statements will almost certainly be enough to irritate the organization.

For US citizens the most important project Bill Gates has taken part in is education and teacher training, most notably Post Secondary Education scholarship grants. Rich people giving away money are all around us and all we need to do is find them and ask them for money as long as we have a legitimate need. Warren Buffett is one of my favourite rich people who give away money. Warren Buffett has an estimates net worth of $46 Billion and has donated $17.25 Billion to help people all over the world. In 2006 Warren Buffett decided to pledge more than $30 Billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation over the next 20 years. The most notable action by Warren Buffett was to encourage 92 wealthy rich people to sign up to the Giving Pledge where billionaires and millionaires pledge to give away more than half of their entire wealth to help people in need all over the world. 

Warren Buffett became one of the wealthiest men in the world by investing in the stock market. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway company has increased by an average of 20% over the last 30 years which is just incredible. Warren Buffett does not have his own charitable foundation as he has pledged to give his money to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. George Soros is another one of the great rich people giving away money. George Soros made his money speculating in the stock market and by becoming an expert at hedging currencies. Soros’s most notable act was when he betted against sterling and forced the United Kingdom out of the Exchange Rate Mechanism and became incredible rich in the process. George Soros has donated over $8.5 Billion and has an amazing net worth of $19 Billion.
